FAQs

Do I need to have had lots of stage/singing experience?

No! We're a community opera company and you don't need to have done a lot of singing or acting before. But you do need to enjoy singing and performing, and be keen to work in a big team to make the show a success.

Will I have to audition?

Yes, everyone applying to be in the Children's Chorus will be auditioned in small groups. This is so that we can match up singers and actors who work well together, see how you respond to working with a professional director, and for you to see what HOT is all about!

What will the audition consist of?

The group audition will be lead by HOT's  Youth Director, Rachel Maby, and the Director of the show, Bernie Byrnes. In the workshop, you'll learn a new song from a musical or an opera, which will then be staged. There will also be a mixture of musical and drama activities.

I'm interested in the lead role of Young Gooner. Is the application process different?

Yes, slightly - you'll attend on the same audition days as the rest of the chorus but have an audition on your own. For this role, you should have had some singing and acting experience, and you need to be a boy with a changed (sometime called 'broken') voice. Please download the information pack and application form below, or get in touch for more info.
